Unique academic programme on facial trauma organised by Fortis Escorts

The rising incidents of musculoskeletal led Fortis Escorts, Jaipur to conduct a two-day academic programme on craniomaxillofacial processes to manage facial trauma, which was led by both national and international faculty members in association with AO CMF, a worldwide network of clinicians from the fields of oral and maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery, ENT, head and neck surgery, ophthalmology, and neurosurgery.

The face-to-face interactive course is delivered through a combination of short lectures, Simulation (Hands-on Experience), small group discussions, and practical exercises. Most of the patients suffering an accident have multiple trauma and require coordinated management among various disciplines of anaesthesiology, otolaryngology, trauma surgery, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, and oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Orofacial injuries comprise a significant number of trauma patients in the emergency department. Such injuries are associated with high morbidity due to increased cost of care and varying degrees of physical, functional, and cosmetic disfigurement.

Various types of facial trauma include maxillofacial injury, midface trauma, facial injury, and LeFort injuries, commonly caused by car and motorcycle crashes, wounds, sports injuries, and violence. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimate shows more than 3000 people are killed every day on the road and at least 30,000 others are injured or disabled. Nearly 50 per cent of these patients have multiple trauma and require coordinated management among various disciplines of anaesthesiology, otolaryngology, trauma surgery, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, and oral and maxillofacial surgery.
