Tamil Nadu: Vaccination numbers down amid new wave scare
Several vaccination centres across Tamil Nadu are empty throughout the day, even during the weekend mega camps, and the average number of vaccinations in a day has dropped from about 1.6 lakh in February to little more than 64,000 in April.
According to data, 44 lakh adults have not taken the first shot and 1.37 crore people are due for thsecond dose. Health secretary J Radhakrishnan stressed the need to get vaccinated, citing the increase in fresh cases and TPR in some Indian cities such as Delhi and Mumbai. On Friday, fresh Covid cases in the state dropped further to 22 from 25 on Thursday.
Meanwhile, in Delhi, children constitute 27% of all people under institutional care, shows government data. Of the 51 Covid patients in hospitals, at least 14 are children.
