World Blood Donor Day is celebrated in recognition of the role of voluntary blood donor organisations and donors. For 2022, World Blood Donor Day slogan is, “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives.”
“During the Covid-19 pandemic, it was a herculean task to collect blood from different parts of the region but with the generous support from these organisations, the department of transfusion medicine conducted more than 1,000 blood donation camps and supplied blood components to various patients admitted in the institute, including thalassemia and cancer patients who required transfusion support at regular intervals,” said Prof Ratti Ram, head of the transfusion medicine department, PGI.
Director PGIMER, Prof Vivek Lal requested them to stay committed to the noble cause. Former PGI director Prof Jagat Ram highlighted the role of voluntary blood donor organisations.
