PGI develops technique to treat Cushing’s syndrome
Cushing’s syndrome is a result of a tumour in the pituitary gland which is less than 5mm in size and cannot be located. For the first time globally, the PGI doctors have been able to develop a technique to locate the same and have published a patent too.
This will enable patients to get the tumour removed without having removed other glands and have subsequent complications for life. The technique is called Ga-68 CRH PET-CT.
Conventionally, the endocrinologists used to go for an invasive and expensive procedure, but with this diagnostic technique, no such gland removal will be done and no invasive procedure will be required.
