    In the last three months PGI’S Jan Aushadi shops have sold Rs 70 lakh worth medicines, as per the PGIs records. There are 19 chemist shops in PGI and the rent of the emergency shop for a month is Rs 1.5 crore. Out of the 19 drug stores in the PGI, two shops are of Jan Aushadis where the rental is free.

    On Monday, UT health secretary Yashpal Garg issued an order for the director health services and director principal GMCH 32 to ensure all the doctors in the Chandigarh administration in the health facilities of the city to prescribe generic medicines only and in case of non-compliance, he/she shall be liable for further action.

  • Survey finds 16% elderly women facing abuse, sons are primary perpetrators

    The non-profit organisation HelpAge India published a study titled "Women & Ageing: Invisible or Empowered?" to commemorate World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, which is observed annually on June 15. The study found that among those who had experienced abuse, over 43% of the elderly women had experienced physical abuse, 40% emotional/psychological abuse, 32% financial exploitation, 29% neglect, and 4% had experienced sexual abuse.

  • Prevalence of diabetes in city is 20.4 per cent: Researcher

    In Chandigarh, the prevalence of diabetes is 20.4 per cent while the national average is 11.4 per cent. The analyst estimated that over 101.3 million people in India had diabetes in 2021. The prevalence rate was 11.4 per cent overall among participants, with 16.4 per cent in urban individuals and 8.9 per cent in rural.
