People must include more millets in diet: Min
Tamil Nadu minister for agriculture and farmers welfare M R K Panneerselvam and MSME minister T M Anbarasan on Tuesday stressed the importance of including more millets in regular diet to lead a healthy lifestyle.
The ministers, along with minister for commercial taxes and registration, P Moorthy, took part in the two-day millet exhibition held at the Agricultural College and Research Institute, Madurai.
“Even before rice and wheat became popular in our diets, it was millets that were first a major part of our traditional diet. Unfortunately, in the current fast-moving world, our diets are much varied and changed from our traditional diet. However, it is heartening to see youngsters go back to including more millets in their food for a healthy diet,” said Anbarasan.
He added that the state government is also giving due importance to agriculture and helping farmers increase their income and get good prices for their produce.TNN
