Thiruvananthapuram: The State Human Rights commission (SHRC) has ordered a probe into the complaint that a girl, who had her fingers bruised after being jammed between the doors, was left to wait without food for 36 hours as the surgery was reportedly delayed by the doctors concerned.

SHRC chairman Antony Dominic directed the Director of Medical Education to submit a report within four weeks. The complaint was received against the doctors associated with anaesthesia, ortho and plastic surgery. The girl was referred from the General Hospital to Trivandrum Medical College.

As per the complaint, a doctor played down the seriousness of the injury and surgery was delayed. Plastic surgeon did not turn up for duty the next day although other procedures were completed. The doctors who were on duty also did not do the surgery.
