‘Flu vax can save aged from lungs, heart ailments’
Dr Sakshi Manchanda said, "A simple flu vaccine can go a long way in reducing hospital visits and emergency cases in older patients," adding that the clinic offers vaccination advice, regular health check-ups and personalised care plans.
This was emphasised by experts at Medanta Hospital during launch of its Geriatric Clinic on Tuesday. "Respiratory infections like pneumonia and influenza (flu) are especially dangerous for the elderly, as their symptoms are often silent and complications severe," said senior consultant Dr Ruchita Sharma.
"What most people don't realise is these infections also increase risk of heart attacks and strokes in older adults. That's why we strongly recommend flu vaccines every six months for senior citizens."
