Daily Covid tally hits 1,000 in Delhi, cause for caution
The daily tally of fresh Covid-19 cases in Delhi touched 1,066, the highest this month, on Wednesday, even as the positivity rate climbed to 6.91%.
This is the fifth consecutive day that the positivity rate has been recorded above 5%, which, doctors say, is worrisome and calls for extra caution.
“People have become complacent. No one wears a mask even in hospital settings. This is causing the infection to spread. Thankfully, the hospitalisation rates are still low, but if the increasing trend continues and high-risk people get infected, we may see an increase in hospitalisation too,” said a senior doctor at Lok Nayak Hospital.
At present, the infection tally stands at 19,50,802, while the death toll has reached 26,307. This includes two fresh fatalities confirmed on Wednesday. The number of active Covid cases in Delhi is 3,239. As many as 1,989 patients are currently under home isolation.
Delhi reported 781 fresh Covid-19 cases with a positivity rate of 6.4% along with two fatalities on Tuesday. On Monday, the city logged 463 novel coronavirus infection cases and two fatalities as the positivity rate climbed to 8.18%, the highest in over a month, according to the health department data. On June 20, 10.1% of the total samples tested turned out Covid-positive.
On Sunday, the city logged 729 cases with a positivity rate of 5.57% and two fatalities. On Saturday, the city saw 738 cases and one death due to the disease. The positivity rate stood at 5.04%. On Friday, it recorded 712 cases with a positivity rate of 4.47% and one death. On Thursday, 649 fresh Covid-19 cases were reported with a positivity rate of 4.06% and one death.
The number of daily Covid-19 cases in Delhi had touched the record high of 28,867 on January 13 during the third wave of the pandemic, and it recorded a positivity rate of 30.6% on January 14, the highest during the third wave.
