Chandigarh: Dispensaries to function as wellness centres
The UT health department has been restructured according to the central government health programmes. The same shall be implemented from July 15 onwards
Presently, the civil dispensary in Sector 19 is catering to the needs of children from 0-6 years old in anganwadis and 6-18 years in schools. But the restructuring will now allow the civil dispensaries to function as health and wellness centres.
These centres will provide care in pregnancy and child birth, management of communicable diseases, OPD and emergency services, care of common eye in ENT problemmes, geriatric health care etc.
In order to provide comprehensive services from all streams, including allopathy, dental and Ayush, the existing doctors engaged under the national health mission on fixed emoluments, have been attached with the civil dispensaries or health and wellness centres under the control of a medical officer.
The doctors posted at the health facilities with provide OPD services to beneficiaries of the area in a fixed time period in their own stream during morning and shall proceed to aanganwadis or schools for their regular services.
Chandigarh will be divided into four zonal referral centres to facilitate children requiring referral services. For any interventional procedure, they can be referred to GMSH-16, Manimajra civil hospital, Sector 22 civil hospital, and Sector 45 civil hospital for corrective or curative measures.
‘Know your Doctor’ concept is also being introduced with the placement of these doctors in the respective health facility of their area from where they will cater to the health needs of the aanganwadis and schools.
