At six, Delhi sees its highest one-day Covid fatality this year
With six Covid-related deaths in the past 24 hours, the national capital has registered its highest fatality count due to the viral infection this year. The city also recorded 1,767 fresh cases on Wednesday, which came out of 6,127 samples, with a positivity rate of 28.6%.
On Tuesday, 1,537 fresh cases were recorded with five deaths and a positivity rate of 26.5%. The active tally now stands at 6,046 and the cumulative fatality count has reached 26,578.
On Monday, 1,017 new cases were reported and the positivity rate touched 32.3%. There were four deaths as well. Till last week, Delhi recorded the maximum number of Covid deaths compared with other states and UTs ever since the cases have started going up due to XBB.1.16 sub-lineage of the virus.
The number of cases had dropped to zero on January 16 for the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic. However, the city has witnessed a spurt in cases over the past fortnight. To take stock of preparedness in hospitals, mock drills were conducted at Delhi hospitals on April 10 and 11.
Medical experts have maintained that there is no need to panic and people should follow Covid-appropriate behaviour and get their booster shots.
