IMA Agra to open OPD on Feb 1, charge Rs 10 from each patient
India Medical Association (IMA) in Agra is planning to open a charitable clinic wherein economically poor patients will be able to consult a doctor by paying just Rs 10 as fee.
As many as 1,200 doctors with private practice are associated with the IMA in Agra. The association is preparing a roster for doctors who will voluntarily provide their services free at the charitable clinic.
Giving details, president of IMA, Agra, Dr Ravi Mohan Pachori said, “We are going to start a charitable clinic for people who are financially weak. The out-patient department (OPD) at the IMA Bhavan will start operating from February 1. The doctors will see patients from Monday to Saturday between 10:30 am to 2:30 pm. Patients will be prescribed generic medicines. Besides, pathology labs will provide concessions to patients coming for tests from the IMA’s OPD.”
According to the IMA sources, every day, around five to six doctors, including at one specialist, will attend the OPD. This means that each doctor’s turn will come probably once in a month, when he or she can take time out of his/her busy schedule.
The IMA Agra also plans to help patients who are advised at the OPD to undergo a surgery to get it done in a private hospital at a concessional rate. Similarly, the IMA is in touch with private pathology labs to conduct tests of patients referred by its OPD at concessional rates.
Besides, operating the charitable clinic, IMA will also be launching an awareness campaign against diabetes and cancer. Schools and colleges will be incorporated in the campaign.
