The comprehensive Liver OPD Clinic was launched by Sterling Hospitals and Medanta in Ahmedabad. While Sterling has long been regarded as one of Gujarat's best hospitals, Medanta is the pioneer in liver transplantation and regenerative medicine.
All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in the national capital has reversed its decision for closure of the Outpatient Department (OPD) on January 22, the day when Pran Pratishtha of Ram Lalla will take place at Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The fresh circular, issued by the premier medical institute, said that the OPD would remain open for all patients with prior appointments and that all critical clinical care services would remain operational.
According to the official memorandum, "AIIMS Delhi will observe a half-day holiday till 2:30 pm on January 22, 2024, on the occasion of the "Pran Pratishtha" ceremony at Ayodhya Ram Temple. However, all critical clinical services shall remain functional."
"The second demand pertains to the stoppage of direct recruitment of the SMOs. Earlier, the department was not agreeing that direct recruitment of SMOs should be stopped. Today, we have been given to understand this demand will now be met and service rules in this regard would be amended," he said.
"The ongoing construction of a ground-plus-one-storey building within the institution's premises is progressing rapidly now. Presently, the foundation part of the building is nearing completion. A bunker will also be constructed as a part of the facility," said assistant executive engineer of PWD, Santanu Sahu.

The JJ chapter of the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) has indicated that their current protest, focused on boycotting OPD services, may escalate if Dr Mahendra Kura, the head of dermatology, is not removed. They plan to intensify the protest by halting ward rounds and emergency services. All 21 resident doctors across three batches in the dermatology department have been on mass leave since December 18, demanding Dr Kura's removal.
Amid rising concerns over the emergence of the new variant of the coronavirus, Dr Bobby Bhalotra, Vice Chairman in the Department of Chest Medicine, Gangaram Hospital, said, "The new variants are so far mild; they are from the family of the Omicron virus. So, the cases are not too much to be worried about; there is no panic as such but yes, it is a sign that it has come back again. It may flourish because it is more infectious than the normal COVID virus so we have to start taking precautions. Precaution and prevention are better than cures. Take precautions so that doesn't spread for them."
Patients with influenza report symptoms like fever, cold, cough, and body ache and are taking around two to seven days to recover, however, it can turn severe for people with underlying respiratory illness if adequate care is not taken.
Dr Subhash Giri, Director of Lady Harding Hospital, said, "At present, in China, the children who are born in this period or the children who are not exposed to the other viruses except COVID. Their immunity to the other routine viruses that caused the URI is far lower. It includes the immunity for influenza as well, and when the serotype is changed to H9N2, the immunity is still very low in these cases."
