Bareilly district hospital goes online
After operations at the district hospital were made online earlier this week, patients have been getting unique health identification number (UHID) and computerised OPD registration slips which a mention of the room number of the doctor who has to be consulted
Chief medical superintendent Dr KS Gupta, said, “As each patient is being given a UHID, we would be able to take out his or her medical record in future. Besides, patients and their attendants who come from rural areas waste their time in finding out about the concerned doctor and his room number. That won’t happen anymore as all the required details are now mentioned on their registration slip.”
The computerised registration slips also have the complete address of patients which would help officials in distinguishing patients from urban and rural areas. If a patient loses his prescription, he or she will be able to access it online. “At present, four computer operators are preparing OPD registration slips and 16 additional operators will join work by next week. This will make the queues shorter,” said Dr Gupta.
According to officials, more than 2,000 new patients visit the OPD at the district hospital daily and the number goes up to 6,000 during seasonal illnesses.
Few other facilities associated with the e-hospital tag will be made available within a month. A patient will have the option of taking an appointment online by going on the website of the e-hospital. That way he or she would not have to stand in serpentine queues waiting for hours outside the doctors’ room. Patients will also be able to check the blood groups available at the blood bank and if their blood group is not visible, they will get time to arrange a donor on their own. Besides, it will reduce their trips to hospital as people would be able to access online reports.
When asked if the initiative will benefit a majority of patients who come from rural backgrounds, Dr Gupta said, “A large number of people now have smartphones and when all the facilities are started, we will start education them on how to make online bookings."
