Assam: Gauhati medical college first in country with Tomotherapy facility
Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday inaugurated the new radiation oncology block at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital’s (GMCH) Cancer Hospital eqipped with Tomotherapy facility.
"The new machine for Tomotherapy that costs about Rs 28 crore is the first in any medical college in the country," Sarma said.
Tomotherapy is an advanced technology by which radiation beams are continuously produced to treat tumours.
Tomotherapy provides 4D volume images of the tumours and radiologists can target them precisely without harming the healthy tissues present in the proximity.
The new technique also supports the specialists to customize treatment plans to each patient and can be used for any case which may need radiation therapy.
