Strategise to bridge learning gap created by Covid: Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia

New Delhi: Interacting with the principals of Delhi government schools, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday said that once schools reopened after the summer break, they must focus on building “conceptual understanding” and not engage in a mad rush to complete the syllabus.

The event, attended by over 800 school principals from across Delhi, aimed at setting targets and developing strategies for the new academic session.

“In the last seven years, the government has done a lot of work on schools and has given a great model of education. But, now, it is the responsibility of the school heads to set their own accountability standards for their institutes and ensure that nothing in the school falls below the benchmark set by them. For this, the government will provide all necessary facilities and funds to the schools. Also, the progress of the schools will be reviewed from time to time by DoE officials,” said Sisodia.

He stressed on the need to build future strategies to bridge the learning gap, which has widened due to the pandemic in the past two years.

“We need to start from the point where we left two years ago and strategise accordingly. There is no rush to complete the syllabus. The focus of schools should be on building conceptual understanding. It’s the responsibility of principals to ensure that no student is left behind. Apart from this, along with the implementation of programmes like Mission Buniyaad, Business Blasters and Mindset Curricula, the principals need to ensure that they set a minimum benchmark of quality of education, cleanliness and maintenance of infrastructure in their schools,” he said.

He also told them to ensure that the dedicated duration for the Mindset Curricula is not utilised for any other subject.
