According to SMS hospital resident doctors, previously, around 3,500 seats were available across different medical departments. However, following a video conference of medical education department officials with the department heads of all medical colleges, 1,727 new seats were added.
The Cabinet also approved the free transfer of 14.05 acres of land from the Ballia district jail to the Medical Education Department for establishing a medical college.
The final year exam results of 2018 batch students should have been released by March 31, 2023, but Agra University declared the results on April 5, 2024 “due to Covid pandemic”.

In reply to a question about the number of doctor of medicine (MD) and master of surgery (MS) seats in the state, the minister said that currently, there are 2,044 MD seats and 932 MS seats in medical colleges of the state. He added that in the past two years, there was an increase of 446 MD seats and 211 MS seats.
A DMER official said that the white apron serves as a distinguishing feature of medical professionals in healthcare settings. This would enable patients to easily recognise and approach medical staff for assistance, he added.
