Hyderabad: National Medical Council yet to reallot seats, medicos' wait continues
They have followed the guidelines and submitted a proposal for the reallocation of 150 seats of TRR Medical College creating supernumerary seats in other existing colleges in the state- which we have approved. The state government is supposed to follow the guidelines for the other two colleges too," said an NMC member
"We had previously written to the the state government reallocating students of the three colleges to the Government of Telangana and gave them the guidelines. They have followed the guidelines and submitted a proposal for reallocation of 150 seats of TRR Medical College creating supernumerary seats in other existing colleges in the state- which we have approved. The state government is supposed to follow the guidelines for the other two colleges too," said an NMC member speaking to TOI on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, after all three proposals are approved by the NMC, the state government will initiate counselling for the students. It's been nearly three months since the National Medical Council (NMC) cancelled their admissions and over 500 students are yet to begin classes.
"The plan for reallocation of students of TRR by increasing supernumerary seats in 14 colleges was sent to the NMC for approval as a one time measure ," said a senior official from the state health department adding, "We have asked the Centre to intervene and expedite the process."
It was in May that the MBBS course, along with a few PG courses, was cancelled in MNR Medical College and Hospital, Sangareddy, and Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences, Vikarabad. The NMC also withdrew the letter of permission for first renewal and second batch admission in TRR Institute of Medical Sciences, Patancheru.
"Our contemporaries have been attending classes for the last three months and they have even submitted their thesis topics. Whereas we have not even started our curriculum.
As we are PG students, attending hospital duty is a crucial part of our curriculum. We cannot study at home. No one in the government or Kalolji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) or NMC has bothered to resolve the issue quickly. We are sitting idle and loosing time," said a PG student from MNR college.
A group of students had also met NMC authorities a day back.
