Cutoffs high as 32 ayurveda colleges await nod by Maharashtra University of Health Sciences

Mumbai: Of the 83 Ayurveda colleges in the state, 32 are yet to get approval from the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS).

With 32 colleges missing from the first round of allotment, students found the cut-offs for BAMS to be on the higher side. Parents alleged that it has become a regular practice with the university for delaying permissions, despite a late start to the admission process.

An official from the state’s CET cell said they are awaiting approvals from the university and will add the seats in the next round of allotment. Parents, however, say that this last-minute approvals are causing confusion among students, who are making choices based on the seat matrix.

Sudha Shenoy, a parent representative, said that of the 32 colleges awaiting approval, six are aided colleges and the rest are private. Allotments in these 32 colleges were not done in the first round. The cut-offs for government colleges was 470 an d for private colleges it was 375. Shenoy said that it will go down once these colleges are added.

Among other AYUSH courses, 11 homeopathy colleges are awaiting approval from the university and five unani colleges are also not in the list. A parent said there has been a delay in starting the admission process this year, and there was no reason for the university to not complete the approval process beforehand.
