A tweet on chief minister Naveen Patnaik’s official Twitter handle said, master of surgery/doctor of medicine courses will be started in six specialties with a total of 24 seats from the current academic session. “It will give a major boost to the health sector in Odisha,” it added.
The Medical Assessment and Rating Board of the NMC reviewed the assessor’s report regarding faculty, their experience, publication and other teaching facilities, including infrastructure at PGIMER and Capital Hospital, for the PG courses to be started for the 2022-23 academic year.
The institute’s director, Nibedita Pani, said the NMC has given final permission to admit five students each in obstetrics and gynaecology, medicine and surgery department, four in pediatrics, three in respiratory medicine and two in the orthopedics department.
She added that 50% of the seats come under the all-India quota during the admission process. “Counselling for these seats will start from September 15. After admission for the all-India quota is over, we will conduct an admission process for the remaining seats that come under the state quota,” Pani said. The official informed us that the classes may start on October 15 if the admission is done as per the schedule. “We are making the hostel ready for those who will take admission here. We have a very good team to run the institute and the courses,” she added.
The CMO also tweeted that the MBBS course will also start with 100 seats each in Sundargarh Government Medical College and Keonjhar Government Medical College. “The state government will provide all infrastructural facilities such as teaching and non-teaching staff, buildings, equipment, and hospital facilities as per the NMC norms,” said the CMO.
