Gujarat records more than 2,000 new Covid-19 cases for first time

Six deaths during the day pushed the toll to 4,479, officials said .
A total of 1,422 people were discharged from hospitals during the day, taking the total recovery count to 2,81,707, which is 95.07 per cent of the total caseload.
The number of active cases breached the 10,000-mark, settling at 10,134 on Friday, including 83 patients who are in critical condition.
Four deaths took place in Surat and one each in Ahmedabad and Rajkot. Surat reported 735 new infection cases, the highest in the state, followed by 613 in Ahmedabad, 187 in Vadodara and 164 in Rajkot.
A state government release said 88,099 Covid-19 tests were carried out on Friday.
Also, 47,14,370 people have been vaccinated against coronavirus so far in the state, of which 6,25,153 have received the second dose.
In neighbouring Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, 17 new cases and two recoveries were recorded on Friday, taking the UT's case tally to 3,525, of which 3,415 have recovered.
The UT now has 108 active cases, and has seen two deaths so far.
Gujarat's Covid-19 figures are as follows: total cases 2,96,320, new cases 2,190, death toll 4,479, discharged 2,81,707 and active cases 10,134.
