Another senior citizen who had died due to Covid was an 80-year-old woman from Sector 20 on September 12. She had diabetes and coronary artery disease. “All the elderly victims were immunised against Covid. But it is not known for how long the antibodies remain,” said a public health expert. There are countries which have started booster doses for the elderly as they have seen their protective mechanism waning after complete immunisation. “The elderly were the first to get vaccinated and they have some or the other comorbidities. These all contribute to less protection against Covid,” said a PGI doctor.
