As of April 11, 2022, over 11 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered globally and the World Health Organization's target is to vaccinate 70 per cent of the world's population by mid-2022.
India began administering the precaution doses of the vaccines to all aged above 18 years at private vaccination centres from Sunday.
This development has come after the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) urged the Health Ministry to allow precaution doses for those travelling to Europe, who had taken their second (final) dose of vaccine more than 270 days before the proposed date of travel, sources said.
A total of 1,04,03,635 doses of first dose and 99,99,355 second doses have been administered to the Health Care Workers so far.
COVID-19 vaccination did not increase risks for rare neurological conditions among more than 8 million people who had received at least one dose of a vaccine from AstraZeneca , Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson, according to researchers.
The active caseload is presently at 1,64,522. Active cases constitute 0.38 per cent of the country's total positive cases.
"With the administration of more than 7 lakh Doses (7,00,706) vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India's COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 175.46 crores (1,75,46,25,710) as per provisional reports till 7 am today," the ministry said in a release
67,538 patients recovered from the infection in the past day taking the cumulative tally of recovered patients to 4,19,10,984. Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.03 per cent.
82,988 patients recovered from the infection in the past day taking the cumulative tally of recovered patients to 4,18,43,446. Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 97.94 per cent.
Mandaviya had earlier informed that over 70 per cent of adolescents in the given age group have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine since the vaccination programme was expanded to the given age group.
