Studying samples from elderly patients with recurring urinary tract infections, the Newcastle University team used state-of-the art techniques to identify that a bacteria can lose its cell wall – the common target of many groups of antibiotics.
It is estimated such infections accounts for seven percent in developed and ten percent in developing countries.
The company has received final approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) to manufacture and market Polymyxin B for Injection USP, Aurobindo Pharma said in a regulatory filing.
