Gene sub-variants may be behind rheumatic heart diseases in kids

A study has found "sub-variants" of genes in children and adolescents in north India that place them at high risk of rheumatic fever/rheumatic heart disease (RHD). India accounts for around 25-50% of newly diagnosed cases of RHD in the world, which eventually causes death if left untreated.
