With Delhi's air pollution deteriorating, authorities of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, a government hospital in the city, have decided to establish a special Out-Patient Department (OPD) for pollution-related illnesses.
Currently, there are about 500 MBBS students in the medical college. The building will have pre-clinical departments, such as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, microbiology, forensic medicine, pharmacology and their laboratories, along with the rooms of their faculties and heads.
According to hospital officials, one of the operation theaters has been completely dedicated to surgeries performed with binoculars, and the other has been kept reserved for operations with a C-arm machine.
Mock drills to assess the preparedness of hospitals in the wake of a spike in COVID-19 cases are underway at several private and public facilities across India. The country registered 5,880 new cases and 14 deaths due to the virus. Till date, only Lok Nayak Hospital, which is run by the Delhi government, has designated beds for isolation and management of monkeypox cases in Delhi. The Centre’s directions come in the backdrop of a rise in the number of monkeypox cases globally.
“There won’t be any paper files now. For the previous patients, we have hired an agency which will upload their medical details in the cloud. We are among the first few hospitals in Delhi to go for full digitisation of patient records,” said Dr BL Sherwal, medical director of the hospital.
