Fully-vaccinated passengers arriving in the country will no longer require PCR tests, said the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority in updated guidance that went into effect on Saturday.
The World Health Organization (WHO) on Thursday shortened the recommended quarantine duration for people exposed to the coronavirus, saying those who test negative can now end quarantine after seven days instead of 14.
However, they said that quarantine measures for international passengers need to be made stricter to prevent spread of the Omicron variant.
Governments globally have tightened social mobility restrictions and made urgent pleas for citizens to vaccinate as Omicron emerges as the dominant strain of the virus, upending reopening plans that many hoped would herald the start of a post-pandemic era in 2022.
Though the NMC has its own hospitals within the city limits, civic officials said the new patients would be given the option of AIIMS Nagpur for mandatory institutional quarantine to facilitate the study. Already, the district is reporting less than 5 or10 cases every day.
The UK's recognition of “Indian vaccine certification” was among the welcome developments highlighted on both sides, as Covishield-vaccinated Indians travelling to the UK will no longer be required to undergo a compulsory 10-day quarantine .
Fully vaccinated travellers from Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, United Kingdom, and the United States will be able to enter Singapore under this arrangement from October 19, Channel News Asia reported.
India is taking a relook to remove France and Germany from the mandatory seven-day quarantine notification issued in February. Both these countries, even before UK, have not mandated compulsory quarantines for those vaccinated by Covishield.
North Korea sealed its borders when the coronavirus pandemic began last year, though officials in neighbouring South Korea and the United States have cast doubts on its claim to have never had a case, despite a lack of signs of major outbreaks.
The Minister, in a statement, said that all international travellers irrespective of their vaccination status will have to take RT-PCR tests on reaching the airports in the state.
