Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd’s US sales dipped by 30% to Rs 269 crore in the Jan-March quarter over the same period last fiscal, while Vadodara-headquartered Alembic Pharmaceuticals Limited’s revenues from the US plummeted by 18% to Rs 475 crore.
Growth rate seems relatively big as the exports of March 2020 were crunched due to lockdown across the world and supply chain disruption.
Standing apart from all other sectors during Covid-19, pharma exports in India witnessed 15.3% so far in the financial year 2020-21 so far. According to the Pharmaceuticals Export Council of India (Pharmexcil), pharma exports are expected to touch $25 billion mark. Pharma exports recorded growth of 11.5% in November.
Speaking on the Covid vaccine developments, Bhaskar stated, "I'm optimistic that as far as the market reports and international journals are concerned, we are going to have a Covid vaccine in the coming two, three months.”
The Centre is committed to promoting pharmaceuticals exports to China, and other untapped markets, Union Commerce & Industry Ministry Suresh Prabhu said on Wednesday.
As per figures for financial year 2016-17, pharma exports stood at Rs 17,744 crore, which is 44% of the total merchandise exports from the state.
Till July, pharma exports registered minus 7.9 per cent growth.
Gujarat's pharma exports to African has declined by 40% in past six months. The state exports drugs worth Rs 8,000 crore annually to Africa.
