According to the latest government figures, a total of 60,042 oximeters have been distributed among Covid-19 patients spread across 11 districts.
"Already received commitments for 30,000 oxymeters. Am overwhelmed. Will now set up 'oxygen jaanch kendra' in 30,000 villages. Commitments still pouring in. Will help set it up in more villages. Thank you donors. We will train village youth and give them oxymeters to set up oxy kendras," Kejriwal said in a tweet.
Many Covid patients are asymptomatic or develop symptoms at a very late stage and deteriorate suddenly, leaving no time for medical intervention. An oximeter will show a drop in oxygen saturation levels if the lungs get infected, even if there aren’t any symptoms. It gives a patient crucial time to reach a hospital.
Medical equipment such as infrared thermometers and pulse oximeters needed in the fight against Covid-19, among others, are stuck at the ports and may result in shortages soon, according to the Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council (Pharmexcil).
The oximeters were donated to Isoparb by international NGO Lifebox as part of its Safer Surgery Project.
