Based on the recommendations made by the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI), the interval between the second and the precaution dose of COVID-19 vaccines was revised from nine months to six months for all beneficiaries aged 18 years and above from July 6, the government informed Parliament on Friday.
The COVID-19 Working Group of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) made the recommendation in its 48th meeting held on July 20, an official source told PTI.
The WHO website states that the rolling data submission has begun on June 10 and the decision date on EUL is yet to be confirmed. The company has also submitted applications for Corbevax registrations in several countries from Asia, Africa Central and South America.
The study was done between February 15 and April 2, 2021, with 262 participants aged 12-17 years.
The National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI), in its meeting on Wednesday, discussed and recommended allowing the administration of precautionary doses before nine months for those who are travelling abroad, according to the receiving country's needs.
Bodily autonomy and integrity are protected under Article 21 of the Constitution, a bench of Justices L Nageswara Rao and B R Gavai said while suggesting that there be no restrictions on unvaccinated people in public areas till Covid numbers are low.
"The COVID-19 working group of the NTAGI (National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation) had earlier reviewed data related to Covovax and okayed it. The NTAGI's Standing Technical Sub-Committee which met on Friday has recommended that the vaccine can be used for 12-17 years age group," an official source said.
Winsley Rose, the principal investigator of CMC Vellore study, said by next month they will know which booster dose and combination works better. "We have already presented our data before NTAGI and they have asked us to come up with some more results. We are waiting for those results," he said.teena th
On Monday, CMC Vellore approached the drug regulator’s office to share preliminary results of the study on the feasibility of mixing Covishield and Covaxin, Winsley Rose, principal investigator of the study, told ET on Tuesday. “After the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) reviews the data of the study, the data will be shared with NTAGI,” said the official cited above.

"The states have started receiving the Corbevax doses, but no decision has yet been taken regarding its use, as of now," people in the government told ET. The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) approved Corbevax in December last year and for adolescents aged 12-18 years in February last month.
