Mankind Pharma and Baidyanath Ayurveda are among the companies that have submitted expressions of interest (EoIs) to acquire 100% of government-owned Ayurveda company Indian Medicines Pharmaceutical Corporation (IMPCL), according to sources in the know.
The Indian government has invited bids for the strategic sale of Indian Medicines Pharmaceutical Corporation Ltd (IMPCL), in which it holds a 98.11% stake. The remaining 1.89% is held by Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam Ltd (KMVNL). The government plans to disinvest its entire stake in IMPCL through strategic disinvestment with a transfer of management control. IMPCL is a profit-making organization that manufactures ayurvedic and unani medicines and supplies them to all states under the National Ayush Mission.
The conclave will pave the way for better coordination among stakeholders and strengthen the functioning of Ayush Health and Wellness Centres (AHWCs). Subject experts from participating states will deliberate on various aspects of the NAM, focus on enhanced efficiency in budget absorption under NAM and institutionalisation for improvised execution of the scheme.
The state government has written to the Centre to open another 1,019 health and wellness centres, he said. The Social Justice and Empowerment Minister was replying to supplementary questions during Question Hour on behalf of the ayurveda minister.
IMPCL has been conferred mini ratna Category II status by the government of India and also got ISO 9001:2015 Certification. The company is presently manufacturing 656 classical avurvedic, 332 unand 71 proprietary ayurvedic medicines for the various diseases spectrum.
"Giving special status to Rajasthan under the National AYUSH Mission would help the state to take forward the mission of deemed university status to the National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA), Jaipur as it has the largest AYUSH basic infrastructure in the country," the chief minister said.
Minister of State of Ayush Ministry Shripad Yesso Naik said there is increased demand for traditional methods of medicine and an MoU with WHO will soon be signed for research in traditional medicines like Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha.
With concerns being expressed over standard of Ayush medicines, the Centre today asked states to equip their regulatory framework and infrastructure to meet the quality requirements prescribed by law.
The main objective of the Department is to provide medicare facilities to the people of the State through Ayurvedic, Unani and Homeopathy systems of medicine.
After the Centre unveiled the National AYUSH Mission (NAM) to promote the Indian system of medicine in the country in September last year, Odisha finally launched its own on Monday.
The government has not only created the new portfolio AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) but has also allocated Rs 5,000 crore for the same, Union Minister of State for AYUSH Sripad Naik said.
