The multi-crore medical seat scam unearthed in Karnataka by the income-tax sleuths last week could well be a pan-India scandal involving deemed and private medical colleges, students and medical entrance coaching centres.
The alleged Rs 14,500 crore bank loan fraud is said to have been perpetrated by the Vadodara-based pharma firm and its main promoters -Nitin Sandesara, Chetan Sandesara and DeeSandesara, all of whom are absconding.
The Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control also designated eight Argentine nationals and nine entities located in Argentina, Colombia, Canada, Britain and the Netherlands for their roles in Goldpharma, the agency said in a statement.

ED had filed the chagesheet against all 12 accused in June 2017, and after approximately 15 months the charges have been framed. The accused, who were present in the court during the framing of the charges, have pleaded not guilty.

Additional Sessions Judge Sidharth Sharma extended the custody of Rajbhushan Omprakash Dixit, a director of Sterling Biotech, after special public prosecutor Nitesh Rana, appearing for the ED, said his further custodial interrogation was required by the agency.
Based on a CBI FIR, the ED had registered a criminal complaint in the ambulance contract awarded to Ziqitza and accused some top Congress leaders of having links to the scam or having favoured the company.
