• New COVID cases up 306 per cent in Punjab, but testing stays low

  Notwithstanding the steep rise in cases, health authorities are yet to ramp up screening. Between March 17 and 29, 22,062 tests — 1,575 tests per day on an average — were conducted in the state using both reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and rapid antigen test (RAT) methods.An analysis of data shows the lowest number of testing in a day over the past 14 days stood at 486 on March 24, followed by 546 on March 20, 944 on March 27 and 1,208 on March 21.

  A medical institute, on an average, caters to a population residing in a 2.68-km radius. However, disparity exists between districts. The population served per medical institution noted a rise from 8,032 in 2021 to 8,120 in 2022. The population served per bed dropped from 1,615 in 2021 to 1,591 in 2022.

  The Uttarakhand State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has dismissed a Mohali-based private hospital's plea challenging an order by the Dehradun district consumer court awarding Rs 10 lakh compensation to the next of kin of a patient who died after blood transfusion.

  Punjab health minister Balbir Singh Sidhu and member of Parliament Parneet Kaur on Thursday laid the foundation stone of Punjab's first Ayush hospital in Dayalpura village of Mohali. Sidhu also announced that the community health centre at Dhakoli will be upgraded to sub-divisional hospital very soon.
