Students looking to get admission to undergraduate paramedical courses such as nursing, physiotherapy, optometry, naturopathy and audiology are in a state of confusion, as the intake process for this has been delayed.
Over the last 10 days, at least 50 students who have been allotted seats in different self-financing colleges have complained to the state selection committee that the institutions were demanding fees higher than those prescribed by the committee.
For making changes in the rules for recruitment of teaching faculty, the medical education department has sent a proposal to department of personnel for necessary amendments. In the proposal, the medical education department has advocated that Rajasthan University of Medical Sciences (RUHS) be allowed to recruit doctors rather than RPSC. This will help to speed up recruitment process for medical colleges.
Selection committee secretary R Muthuselvan said it was unavoidable in online simultaneous counselling. "Students apply in both government and management quota because they may have some self-financing colleges as the second or third priority. We cannot deny a meritorious student that chance," he said.
The committee will release the results of the first round on October 29. Students can download the provisional allotment order from the next day. For management quota seats, the last day for locking options will be Friday and results will be declared on October 30.
Admission to MBBS courses in deemed universities across the country is done by the medical selection committee attached to the directorate general of health services in New Delhi, along with central government institutions and all-India quota seats of state medical colleges.
Going by the reduction of cut-off marks by 25 percentile across all categories, the revised qualifying percentile/cutoff for general category candidates would be 25 percentile, for people with disabilities in the general category (PWD-general) it would be 20 percentile, and 15 percentile for both the SC/ST/OBC and people with disabilities in the SC/ST/OBC category, an official source said.
Around 230 seats are likely to be vacant under the quota after the first round. These vacant seats ideally would have been made available only in the mop-up round. The second round of admissions is slated to start in the next few days.
PG medical seats in government colleges in the state have almost doubled in the last six years to 2,832. Of these, 50% come under the state quota and the rest go to the all-India quota. This year, under the Centre-sponsored scheme for 'strengthening and upgradation of medical colleges for starting new postgraduate disciplines and increasing seats', the state was to get 692 seats.
Early this week, the state government passed a resolution reserving 20% seats in PG courses for students who served at least two years in rural, tribal and difficult public health centres. While the decision was announced in April this year, under the MVA government, the last-minute GR has left students in a dilemma. A student added that the admission brochure was also released, which usually mentions all the reservations. Students claimed that the resolution came at a time when the deadline for the registration process for Maharashtra, other states and even all-India counselling was over
Unlike earlier, when all the B Category seats were available to students across India, now only 15% of seats are open to candidates from across the country.
