Maharashtra brings back mask mandate as cases rise

After three days of high Covid-19 numbers and a missive from the Centre about the near-doubling of cases within a week in six districts, the Maharashtra health department on Friday announced that masks should be worn in all places except open spaces. The rule had been relaxed completely from April 2.

Mumbai: For 2nd time this yr, city Covid toll at 3 for consecutive days

For the second consecutive day, the city reported three Covid-19 deaths on Tuesday. On January 3-4 too, the city had seen three deaths each. The toll now stands at 11,398.

Earlier, two volunteers, aged 32 and 48, were given a shot of the 'Covishied vaccine, being manufactured by the city-based Serum Institute of India (SII), on Wednesday when the phase II clinical trial of the medicine began at Bharti Vidyapeeth's Medical College and Hospital here.

India recorded more than 1.57 lakh Covid-19 cases and 3,236 deaths from the virus in the first week of July alone, in the worst seven days of the pandemic in the country in terms of infections.
