In the United States there have been at least 180 cases and six reported deaths. Health officials remain perplexed by the causes of the hepatitis and say the best available evidence points to a stomach bug that isn't known to cause liver problems in otherwise healthy kids. Spain says it began closely monitoring the situation following an alert to the World Health Organization by Britain following a spike in cases.
Since viral hepatitis transmits through ingestion of contaminated food and water, the health department has roped in the public health and engineering department (PHED) in the fight against hepatitis to ensure clean water supply to people.
"Vaccine of Hepatitis B is provided to all newborns to give lifelong immunity. We shall be taking treatment services to sub district level and population based screening. Let's all take up the challenge on this day to eliminate Hepatitis in West Bengal," she added.

An efficient response to the Hepatitis epidemic must include testing and identification of infection since it opens the door to services for both prevention and treatment. For 2022, WHO has decided on the theme with the goal to raise awareness about the need to simplify and bring hepatitis care to primary health facilities, community-based venues and locations beyond hospital sites, so that care is closer to communities and people wherever they are.
The city registered 22 cases of dengue between June 1 and 19 as compared to 12 in June 2021.
The WHO said that the European Region accounted for half the probable cases, including 267 from the United Kingdom, while a third of the probable cases were from the United States.
Health authorities globally have been investigating the mysterious rise in severe cases of hepatitis - or liver inflammation - in young children. The outbreak was first reported in April in Britain and has since then hit dozens of other countries.
"More than 700 probable cases have now been reported to WHO from 34 countries. At least 38 of these children have needed liver transplants, and 10 have died," said Dr Ghebreyesus.
Out of the 650 probable cases, at least 38 (6 per cent) children have required transplants, and nine (1 per cent) deaths have been reported to WHO. About one-third of the cases, 222, are in the UK, and another 216 have been reported in the US.
