CID officers investigating the fake doctors’ racket active at various state-run primary health centres now believe that the accused were part of a pan-India network that runs medical admission rackets. The investigating agency has brought accused Khusinath Halder and Kaiser Alam — who were posing as doctors in north Bengal — to Kolkata on Saturday.
Besides awarding punishment to the doctor of Nikhil Reddy (who was left bed-ridden after undergoing a height-increase surgery early this year), the Telangana state medical council (TSMC) suspended six other doctors for a certain period for indulging in unethical medical practice.
To tackle the menace of fictitious doctors (quacks), the district health department has initiated a drive to curb the menace. As per the department, close to 2,500 quacks are currently operating in the district.
