Health minister Satyendar Jain on Thursday said despite the surge in Covid-19 cases in the past few days, there hasn’t been a significant increase in hospitalisations. He also reiterated that there would not be a lockdown in the capital.

In the last 12 days, Delhi has recorded an average of 63 Covid-19 cases per day, the highest in the past four months. In August, September, October and November, Delhi recorded, respectively, 48,37, 32 and 35 new Covid cases on average daily.
The national capital recorded 93 fresh Covid-19 cases and four deaths due to the disease on Wednesday.
Across India, the number of cases involving the established UK, South Africa and Brazil variants of SARS-CoV-2, the Covid-causing coronavirus, is respectively, 736, 34 and 1. The mutations of concern are mainly of six types and 800-900 samples have tested positive for them.
Delhi recorded 7,546 fresh Covid-19 cases on Thursday, taking the infection tally in the national capital to over 5.1 lakh.
Delhi on Wednesday recorded the highest single-day tally of 8,593 new Covid-19 cases and the health department confirmed 85 deaths in the last 24 hours.
The national capital recorded 41 Covid-19 fatalities on Tuesday taking the death toll to 6,081, while 3,579 fresh cases took the infection tally to over 3.36 lakh, authorities said.
Delhi’s Covid-19 tally breached the 2.38 lakh mark with 4,127 fresh cases on Friday. Thirty fresh fatalities were recorded in the past 24 hours, taking the toll to 4,907, officials said. According to the Delhi government’s health bulletin, a total of 61,037 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.
According to the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi health department, 19 more fatalities have been reported in the city.
