  • Cervical cancer: Are we adopting the correct approach for prevention?

While most developed countries have a fairly robust screening programme where women are tested periodically, countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America are lagging in executing a proper screening ecosystem for non-communicable diseases. The approach for promoting the early screening of cervical cancer needs more effort in terms of reaching the rural population through awareness and developing methods to reach women closer to their homes. Dependency on Gynaecologists and other clinicians who are swamped with patients has to be reduced, and ANMs and Asha workers need to be taught how to collect cervical swab samples.
