The rural parts of the district have seen a significant drop in active caseload over the past two months, but the case fatality rate (CFR) has been steady at 2.6% from September last year.
The drop in new cases, coupled with the decline in deaths and improved recoveries, has come as a big relief to administrators and healthcare workers who have been battling a surge in cases for the past five months.
India's Covid-19 caseload mounted to 84,62,080 with 50,356 infections being reported in a day, while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease crossed 78 lakh pushing the national recovery rate to 92.41 per cent, according to data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Saturday.
With 3,644 more Covid-19 patients getting discharged on Sunday, Tamil Nadu’s recovery rate has crossed 95%. As many as 6,94,880 infected people have recovered from the disease so far in the state.
With the latest figures, the caseload in the state has reached 1,87,211, while the toll went up to 1107.
The India Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Monday launched a dedicated vaccine portal and national clinical registry of COVID-19 to address queries of the people on vaccine development.
It also highlighted that active cases of the infection comprise only 21.60 per cent of the total caseload.
With 60,975 new cases detected on Monday and 66,550 people discharged the same day, the active caseload stood at 7,04,348 , which was 22.2% of the total 31,67,323 confirmed cases in the country so far. The recoveries - at 75.9% - were 3.4 times the active cases.
In view of COVID-19, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday informed that the country has substantively ramped up its testing infrastructure from one lab in January 2020 to 1370 labs as of now.
With 36,569 patients discharged in 24 hours, the total number of recoveries has jumped to 10,94,374 on Saturday and exceed active COVID-19 cases by 5,29,271. There are 5,65,103 active cases in the country at present, according to health ministry data updated at 8 am on Saturday.
