NEET UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate) is a national-level medical entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India. In a lawsuit, filed under Article 131 of the Constitution, the state government has alleged that the principle of federalism, which is part of the basic structure of the Constitution, is being violated by examinations like NEET as it takes away the autonomy of states to make decisions regarding education.

To avoid students from blocking seats, the committee has said that candidates who select a seat in the final phase of counselling and do not join the course within the stipulated time or those who discontinue the course after the cut-off date fixed by the National Medical Commission / Dental Council of India should pay the discontinuation fee of ₹10,00,000 to the selection committee.
