Traditional diagnostic methods, such as bacterial culture and PCR-based testing, can take 24–72 hours, delaying critical treatment decisions. In contrast, PathCrisp enables direct detection from clinical samples without the need for expensive equipment or prolonged culture processes, ensuring early recognition and targeted therapy."
The study, published in the international medical journal, ‘BMJ Open', found that private hospital treatment of some antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections could cost 10.6% the amount needed for drug-susceptible infections.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) said consumption of antibiotics in the EU had increased by one percent between 2019 and 2023, meaning it was "moving further away from the 2030 target of a 20 percent reduction" recommended by the EU.

The winners of the joint second prize, each receiving £600,000, are OASIS: One Health Antimicrobial Stewardship for Informal Health Systems, along with AMR Sense: Empowering Communities with a Proactive One Health Ecosystem. Both projects are based in India and aim to empower community health workers and informal caregivers with new technologies to gather data on AMR at the community level.
Analyses carried out by Geneva University Hospital (HUG) and the University of Geneva (UNIGE) concluded that the situation in sub-Saharan Africa was particularly "alarming".
IIIT-Delhi's project 'AMRSense: Empowering Communities with a Proactive One Health Ecosystem', led by Dr Tavpritesh Sethi, Associate Professor, Department of Computational Biology, IIIT-Delhi, in collaboration with CHRI-PATH, 1mg.com, and ICMR, has secured the joint second prize. The project shares this honour with OneHealth Antimicrobial Stewardship for Informal Health Systems (OASIS), also from India.=
Host-directed therapies (HDT) aim to strengthen the body's immune responses and represent an underexplored opportunity to improve treatment of TB, particularly MDR-TB. HDT are designed to target several immune pathways in infected cells to restore or induce antimicrobial functions instead of inhibiting bacterial growth directly.
