West Bengal govt allows Covovax as booster jab

The state health department has allowed Covovax as a precautionary dose for all persons above 18 years of age from private CVCs. KOLKATA: The state health department has allowed Covovax as a precautionary dose for all persons above 18 years of age from private CVCs.

This comes after the health ministry recommendation to use Covovax as a heterologous booster jab to all adults irrespective of whether they have taken - Covaxin or Covishield.

So far, the booster jab had to be the same vaccine that an individual had taken as the first and second doses. But private hospitals across the state said they would not procure Covovax as there are no takers for booster jabs at present.
