TN will ensure that no state-run medical college loses recognition: Ma Subramanian
Last month, the Undergraduate Medical Education Board withdrew recognition of three state-run medical colleges in Tamil Nadu along with nearly 40 others for deficiencies in biometric attendance and inadequate CCTV cameras. This would mean that these colleges, which together have 500 MBBS seats, won’t be able to admit students into medical colleges this academic year.
However, the board has allowed an appeal against this order.
“While deans and officials from the directorate of medical education have gone on an appeal against the UG board’s decision, the health secretary and I will meet Union ministers in Delhi and inform him that withdrawal of recognition is too big a punishment for such an issue,” Subramanian said after inauguration construction of a park at Saidapet.
He said a team of officials from the National Medical Commission, who inspected the Stanley Medical College and Hospital on Monday, saw the functional Aadhaar-based biometric attendance system on the campus.
