NMC begins rubella vaccination drive

Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has launched a mass vaccination drive to prevent measles-rubella. The drive is being carried out as part of the central government’s mission to eradicate measles-rubella totally from the nation by 2020.

The NMC conducted a workshop of doctors and volunteers related to vaccination drive on Friday. Additional municipal commissioner Rajendra Thakre, deputy municipal commissioner Rajesh Mohite, health officer (medical) Dr Anil Chiwane, senior medical officer Dr M Sajid, Dr NK Rathi, nodal officer Dr Narendra Bahirwar and others were present.

Thakre urged the doctors and volunteers to make the drive successful. “Around 49,000 people die due to the disease every year in India. Therefore, the centre and state governments are taking serious cognisance of the disease. Mass awareness about the disease and also vaccination drive should be started,” he said.
