Mumbai: All government offices to now be tobacco-free
In a letter dated November 20, the Union health ministry has directed all states that all government offices be declared tobacco-free.
In a letter dated November 20, the Union health ministry has directed all states that all government offices be declared tobacco-free. Stating that Nirman Bhawan in New Delhi has been a tobacco-free zone for a year now, and smoking and spitting is a punishable offence there, the letter by Union health secretary Preeti Sudan said the tobacco ban ties in with the the Swachh Bharat Swasth Bharat initiative.
Tobacco is a major risk factor for cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic lung disease, stroke, infertility, blindness and tuberculosis.
