Ministers launch ₹5.2-crore health infrastructure facilities in Trichy

Trichy: Municipal administration minister K N Nehru and health minister Ma Subramanian inaugurated new health infrastructure across Trichy district on Sunday, set up by spending ₹5.2 crore. The event took place at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH), where Nehru urged the health minister to sanction a new dental and Ayurveda hospital in Trichy.

"We were assured that dental and Ayurveda colleges would be established here, but funding constraints have delayed the project. The DMK government is committed to enhancing health infrastructure in Trichy," Nehru stated.

The ministers inaugurated several facilities, including block primary health centers in Thandalaiputhur, Sirukambur, and Uppiliyapuram, each developed at ₹50 lakh. An urban primary health center in Puthanatham was built at ₹1.2 crore, while health sub-centers in Punganur and Mutharasanallur were constructed at ₹30 lakh each.

"Approximately 2,500 old and dilapidated health facilities across the state have been identified for redevelopment. We are progressively shifting operations to new buildings, with around 20 new facilities inaugurated weekly," health minister Subramanian said.

He also announced the sanctioning of new urban primary health centers in Panjapur and Ariyamangalam. Noting the ₹110 crore allocated for a new six-floor specialty block at MGMGH, he confirmed that work is underway. During his inspection of the Srirangam and Lalgudi government hospitals, he addressed requests for additional buildings at Srirangam, stating these would be considered.

Earlier, minister Nehru planted palmyra saplings along the Cauvery riverbanks in Mutharasanallur as part of a state initiative to raise one crore palm tree saplings across nine districts.
