The move comes after the capacity of beds of the hospital was increased from 400 to 700. The increase in beds requires a hike in the FAR from 150 to 225, according to the proposal.
FAR is the ratio of the total floor area of a building to the area of the plot. This increase, health department officials said, will allow for construction of more floors at the facility. The hospital will not only cater to the city’s population, but also patients coming from NCR areas and nearby towns and states.
“For increasing the capacity of Civil Hospital from 400 to 700 beds, with a tentative covered area of 66,500 sq metres is required, keeping in view 95 sqm covered area per bed which includes all mandatory hospital-related services. Further, it has also been requested by them (the health department) that the said capacity can only be achieved if the permissible FAR is increased from 150 to 225 in accordance with Haryana Building Code, 2017 norms and the permissible ground coverage,” the proposal sent by MCG to the urban local bodies department on Monday stated.
The health department had earlier sent the proposal to MCG. “After analysis of the situation, MCG sent the proposal for approval to the urban local bodies department,” said Dr Virender Yadav, the chief medical officer.
The new hospital aims to be a state-of-the-art government-run facility that aims to make cost-effective healthcare accessible to all in the city.
The hospital will replace the old building, where six incidents of roof collapse were recorded in 2015 and 2016.
