LG: Health checkup must for govt staff above 40 yrs
Lieutenant governor Anil Baijal on Thursday approved a proposal to make annual health checkup mandatory for all Delhi government employees above 40 years.
According to the statement, the health scheme would prove to be a “milestone” in ensuring good health for government employees and go a long way in improving overall productivity and efficiency. “The scheme shall benefit approximately 1.5 lakh employees currently working in Delhi government. Such facilities were so far available to IAS officers and Group A Civil Services Officers only. An employee can visit any of the empanelled hospitals for the check-up and will be eligible for reimbursement,” it said.
Till now, the employees were deemed fit or unfit on the basis of their appearance. “The employees looking healthy got positive remarks in the state-of-health column in the annual performance assessment report,” a source said. Baijal has asked the chief secretary to work out the modalities for the implementation of the scheme and ensure that every employee, irrespective of grade in service, availed of its benefits.
Meanwhile, heads of various departments in Delhi government have sought 15 days more to shortlist “tainted and unproductive” officers who could be retired. Last month, LG had directed the chief secretary to compulsorily retire all such employees.
