Kerala : Third phase of Jeevanam project will be launched to detect breast and ovarian cancers among women

Kozhikode: Kozhikode Corporation will commence the third phase of Jeevanam project for the early detection of ovarian and breast cancers among women. A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of the Kudumbashree Community Development Societies (CDS) held at the corporation Kudumbashree office here on Friday.

The civic body had launched the project with the help of Kannur based Malabar Cancer Care Society , Eksat-HRD training and Research Institute during the tenure of the previous corporation council and executed first and second phase of jeevanam project during 2011 to 2012 and 2013-2014. The civic body had spent a sum of Rs 40 lakh for the execution of first and second phase project and conducted seven screening camp during the time to detect the cancers among women.

The meeting chaired by CDS North chairperson P P Sheeja decided to carry out screening test to detect ovarian and breast cancers among women in the third phase. The meeting also decided to set up medicine centre to distribute free medicines to women detecting with cancers.

Kudumbashree project officer A V Ramsi Ismail presented the project report during the occasion. CDS central chairperson K Beena and CDS south chairperson Prameela Devadas attended the meeting.
